Styx has found their spirit again after not releasing an album since 2005, not releasing a DECENT album since 2003, and not releasing a GOOD album since 1983. Some of the songs are a bit of a departure from their classics, but a few songs such as Gone Gone Gone and Hundred Million Miles feel like classic Styx. The songs that do depart from the classics however are themselves great too, and I could see Time May Bend and The Red Storm being played even by those who prefer the classic nature of Styx's songs. Styx might not have Dennis DeYoung with them anymore but they made a killer album anyhow and I'm very excited to see them live later this month.
Best song on the album? It's hard to say. I like them all. But I'll leave the post specifically linking Gone Gone Gone. It's a pretty by the books classic Styx song, but I think it was done beautifully, and if I were to link a song long over 3 minutes I'm not sure that you guys would listen to it anyways.
