@AndyM03 I totally agree on Lady Bird. Way overhyped. A near-perfectly executed coming of age film set in the early 2000's in Sacramento (it helps if you've been there), buuuuut it's not that impressive to have perfect execution when your scope is incredibly small and simple. Wasn't doing anything new or interesting at all.
Also the mom is verbally abusive and that's never properly reckoned with. Sure, there's a nice message about how it's possible to have positive interactions within a dysfunctional parent-child relationship, but I don't like that the film gave her a pass on one of the most destructive things you can do to your kids.
