Irresponsible doesn't have to mean stupid. For example, it was very irresponsible for me to get drunk and stay up until 3 AM the night before a 9 AM final in second year, but it wasn't stupid, because it worked out and was nothing but value.

That's stupid and irresponsible.
You say that, but clearly it was one hundred percent worthwhile. If you'll argue that decisions that lead to literally nothing but value for you (well, me, in this case) are stupid because they were risky, go fuck yourself and get some better risk assessment.
