The students may have dealt with one of their attackers, but by no means were their troubles over. A veritable army of Grimm unleashed the deadliest attack yet, ignoring three of the calmest, most level-headed Blakes in the clearing, but unfortunately piling on the other three. The infiltrator took advantage of this distraction to strike at the students again, and when the dust had cleared...

Anatronman has been slain! He was:

You're Ruby Rose, the Town Grimm-Slayer.

Attack: 65
Defense: 20
Aura: 80
Stamina: 10

Big huge scythe that's also a sniper rifle notwithstanding, you're far from the strongest fighter around. Luckily you've got a pretty handy Semblance for just about any situation, and some weirdo plot magic that clears out Grimm like nobody's business. (Although that last part might never come up.)

Active ability: Roses (Costs 5 Aura.) Burst into a bunch of rose petals, and dash somewhere nearby super-quick. Choose one: 50% chance of avoiding any hits that target you this turn, but you can't attack, orattack with a 50% chance to ignore target's Defense.
Active ability: BSOD. Destroy all active Grimm. Your Aura and Stamina drop to zero.

Compared to other character roles, you have moderately low Aura , average Attack and Defense, and low (or extremely high) ability costs.

You win the game when all Mafia and all Grimm are eliminated.

Tag_Ross has been slain! He was:

You're Yang Xiao Long, the Town Veteran / Vigilante.

Attack: 65
Defense: 20
Aura: 100
Stamina: 10

Your shotgun-gauntlets might just be the second-coolest shotgun weapons in the series so far, (albeit by a pretty wide margin.) Your actual fighting skills are a lot more impressive. If you end up taking some hits, they'd better finish you off while they're at it - or you'll dish 'em back out twice as hard.

Active ability: Tantrum For every 1 Aura you have missing (less than full) when you activate this ability, add 2 damage to your next attack.

After using this ability, your remaining Aura drops to 1.

Compared to other character roles, you have moderately high Aura , average Attack and Defense, and extremely high ability costs.

You also have the Dual-Wielding passive ability. Instead of attacking once for 65 damage, if you're not using your ability, you can attack twice for 45 (each).

Protips:
- For your active ability to be effective, you're going to need to take hits without being eliminated. If the Mafia focus you down, you'll die before you can accomplish anything!
- Technically, there's no reason you can't attack yourself at Night...

You win the game when all Mafia and all Grimm are eliminated.

Ro Ro Ro has been slain! He was:

You're Nora Valkyrie, the Town Ginger Small Girl With Big Hammer / Vig(ish).

Attack: 85
Defense: 15
Aura: 100
Stamina: 10

The hammer's also a grenade launcher, because of course it is.

You're the heaviest hitter on the team, though not necessarily the best fighter. Your Semblance lets you absorb electricity to get a power-up, and you won't be surprised at how often that doesn't come in handy. Hell, at some point, gotta just gotta start electrocuting yourself in the middle of combat - y'know?

You're good at smashing two types of targets: Really big, slow-moving ones, and ones that had just been beating up on Ren. Your attacks have a 50% chance to miss if they're aimed at another player.

Active ability: Tase Yourself (No cost.) For the duration of this phase, you cannot attack, and your Defense drops to zero. Double your Attack value for the following Night phase.
Passive ability: Crushin' On. (No cost.) If and when the Lie Ren character has his Aura depleted, you are guaranteed to strike his attacker on the following Night phase. (Will not miss; cannot be redirected - but you may choose not to attack.)

Compared to other character roles, you have high Aura , high Attack, low Defense, and extremely low ability costs.

You win the game when all Mafia and all Grimm are eliminated.

...

Uh-oh.

11 Lesser Beowolves have spawned!

Attack: 30
Defense: 0
Stamina: 35

Named for a totally non-lupine dude who kicked a lot of ass, these lupine creatures really don't kick ass at all. Even entire hoards of them don't pose much threat to an experienced Huntsman - though some of you novices may be in trouble if their numbers get too far out of control.

3 Ursai Minor have spawned!

Attack: 50
Defense: 0
Stamina: 55

Named for a constellation, you're still far from being the star of the show. But hey, at least students look kind of cool when when they one-shot you!

2 Alpha Beowolves have spawned!

Attack: 60
Defense: 0
Stamina: 65

This is no longer a routine mission. Everything up 'till now has been standard-issue wildlife within the forests of Remnant, but it will take more than a couple of scraggly peasants with hand-me-down rifles to defend against these monsters. Most of your classmates would probably need to work with their teammates to deal with one of these, but you're a pretty gifted bunch of students, and most of you can handle one of them alone.

1 Ursa Major has spawned!

Attack: 70
Defense: 10
Stamina: 65

Distinguishable from the Ursa Minor by the spikes on its back, the armor plating along its limbs, and, of course, its much, much larger size, the Ursa Major constitutes a deadly encounter for the majority of Huntsman Academy first-year students - and even some of the four-man teams. Fighting this thing is not going to be easy, and it's not going to be fun. In fact, you'd be well-advised to avoid any unnecessary encounters with Grimm of this level whenever possible. Sure, a good student can probably handle it, but you'll tire yourself out in the process. So why take the risk?

1 King Taijitu has spawned!

Attack: 80
Defense: 20
Stamina: 80

They're humongous two-headed snakes, and I don't really know what else to say about them beyond that. (They don't show up much.) Actually, wait, there's this: A major character once solo'd one of these things early in Season 1, and that was basically enough to land him in Worf territory from that point onward. Even veteran Huntsmen refer to these things as significant obstacles.

There are 31 Lesser Beowolves in play.
1 Lesser Beowolf is injured (5 HP).

There are 9 Ursai Minor in play.
All Ursai Minor are at full HP.

There are 5 Alpha Beowolves in play.
All Alpha Beowolves are at full HP.

There are 3 Ursai Major in play.
All Ursai Major are at full HP.

There are 2 King Taijitu in play.
1 King Taijitu is injured (30 HP).

[Holy fuck, what have I done.]

The Grimm Counter is at 551.

Day 3 begins.
(Ends 16:00 EST on Monday, or when a player is hammered - whichever comes first.)

2 votes to hammer.

The Grimm Counter will be halved at the end of this Day phase, before Grimm spawn. If a Mafia player is lynched, then it will drop down to zero after spawn.

...good luck!

Rondait, I guess it's all up to you now. Firedemon's been lurking the whole fucking game just to get the Grimm counter as high as possible. He even mentioned that fact earlier as if to say "I admit to doing this, so you can't accuse me of doing this." Meanwhile, I've been consistently on Andy's ass, and I've been a serious boon to the town. Get that lurking son of a bitch outta here so we can deal with the Grimm.

Speaking of which, I should tell you about my role. I have the ability to defend players from Grimm, and I have just enough aura left to defend the two of us for one night.

Rondait

Yeah. I'm with ya. If it's between the two of you, at least you post. I'm not going to immediately lynch because we need to try and coordinate this, but I think it'll end up being a draw. Im basically useless against Grim. Are you able to attack and use your protection? If so I'll do what I can tonight, but that's next to nothing. Otherwise I have a protection ability that will at least slightly mitigate the damage for the two of us.

Dunsparce

My ability redirects Grimm away from whoever I target, so if I protect both of us, we won't get attacked at all. You should hold on to your aura until the second night.

I can attack while using protection. I can also attack twice for reduced damage if I don't use protection. Tonight we'll have to pool our attacks against those King Taijtus, and pray to RNJesus we live. If I can survive to the point where it's nothing but Lesser Beowolves left, then I can win this because my defense is equal to their attack.

I'm a little triggered that you asked for me, then hammered him while I was at work that day. Admittedly I didn't check this until a little after work, but you guys dropped three of four lynch votes during my work day.

"Jaune! It's me, Ren!" Blake shouted to Blake, recognizing Beacon Academy's worst fighter and best strategist.

"I know!" Blake shouted back, recognizing his serene weaboo teammate. He pointed to the Blake who'd been silent this entire time. "And that means she's actually..."

You're Neopolitan, the Mafia Waifu Mute, Stab-happy Umbrella Midget Fanart Porn Star Bus Driver.

Attack: 95
Defense: 35
Aura: 110
Stamina: 10

You... yeah, you're the muscle here. You're a much better fighter than all these other guys and girls. Your Semblance is also strong as hell, but I'm using it for my excuse plot already so you don't get to have one.

...well, fine. Maybe just a little bit of one.

Active ability: Bus 'em. (Costs 10 Aura.) Choose two players, and choose an effect: (1) All attacks and abilities targeting the first player are redirected to the second, or (2) All attacks and abilities targeting the first player are redirected to the second, and vice-versa. This ability will not work on Grimm attacks.

Active ability: Teamwork. (No cost.) If Emerald Sustrai is alive and still has Aura remaining, you may sacrifice your Night attack to have her make an extra one in your place, with an attack value of 80. If either of you gets killed off, the other gets a 50% boost to damage as well as +10 to Defense.

Compared to other character roles, you have high Aura, very high Attack and Defense, and moderate ability costs.

You win the game when all Townies are eliminated.

Good luck!

It was a really touch-and-go fight for a moment, as the veteran criminal had a ridiculous 142 Attack and 45 Defense at this point, but ultimately the two of them managed to take advantage of her distraction and bring her down after a Grimm knocked her off of her guard. There. Battle won. The next wave of Grimm to show up was clearly going to be the last of them, as the number of new ones showing up began to taper off heavily.

The illusions Neo was using to make them all look like Blake disappeared as she went down, and the remaining student's appearances became their own once again:

You're Jaune Arc, the Town Doctor / Shot-Caller.

Attack: 35
Defense: 10
Aura: 150
Stamina: 10

Oof. That's rough, buddy. You're the weakest fighter there is. But you're pretty perceptive in combat, and can keep a clear head when things get dicey - surprisingly useful traits, all considered. More importantly, thanks to your shield, armor, and aura reserves, you can really take a hit. (Which is good, since that's what tends to be always happening to you.)

Active ability: Shield (No cost.) Choose a target player (including yourself). Your's and the target's Defense stats are increased by 10, and you prevent the highest-damage hit that would strike either of you this phase. You may not attack while using this ability.
Active ability: Two-hand (No cost.) Lose 10 Defense, but double your Attack for this phase.
Active ability: Strategize (No cost.) Choose one: Watch target player to see who targets them this phase, or watch target player to see who they target this phase. You may not attack while using this ability.

Compared to other character roles, you have very high Aura , very low Attack and Defense, and extremely low ability costs.

You win the game when all Mafia and all Grimm are eliminated.

You're Lie Ren, the Town Weaboo / Grimm-Blocker.

Attack: 45
Defense: 30
Aura: 75
Stamina: 10

I'm not gonna lie: You're really not the best at fighting other Huntsmen. You'd think all that meditation, study, and martial arts practice would make you super zen ninja warrior stronk, but nope. And to top it off, your Semblance - calming the emotions of yourself and other people, if you want to - is only useful against Grimm, since it makes you more or less invisible to them.

Stick around 'till late game, though, and you could be downright invaluable.

Passive ability: Dual-Wielder - If you don't use any Active ability during Night phase, you may attack twice for 35 damage per hit, instead of just once for 45.
Active ability: Tranquility. (Costs 5 Aura per player affected.) You, and any other players you designate, cannot be targeted by Grimm this phase. If a Grimm would attack you, it chooses another target at random instead.

Compared to other character roles, you have very low Aura and Attack, very high Defense, and moderately low ability costs.

Protip: Your Defense is on par with the Mafia's, and well above the other Townie's. Since Defense is applied for every individual hit a player takes, your single attack will deal more damage to Mafia players than the two smaller ones - though this isn't necessarily true for other Townies, and certainly not for most Grimm.

You win the game when all Mafia and all Grimm are eliminated.

"We need to keep them back until the others wake up!" Jaune stood back-to-back with Ren over their fallen classmates, weapons at the ready as the hoard of monsters closed in around them. He swallowed nervously, having never even taken on some of the bigger Grimm before, let alone in such numbers. "How are you holding up? Can you use your Semblance?"

Ren shook his head. "I took a lot of hits." He said, "my Aura's in the red, so I can't use it for long. You?"

"Still at full Aura" Jaune answered grimly. "But I'm not sure how many of them I can take on..."

The Grimm Counter is now at 276.

5 Lesser Beowolves have spawned!

All Alpha Beowolves are at full HP.

There are 3 Ursai Major in play.
All Ursai Major are at full HP.

There are 2 King Taijitu in play.
1 King Taijitu is injured (30 HP).
The Grimm Counter is now at 0.

...

"Wait, that's it!" Jaune exclaimed, as it came to him. "I'll use my Semblance!"

Ren's eyes widened as he realized what a great idea that was. With their Semblances combined, the two of them could easily take on thirty-six Beowolves, ten Ursai Minor, six Alpha Beowolves, three Ursai Major, and two King Taijitu at the same time!

It took a long, long while, and both of them were pretty worn out when it was done, but in the end they stood victorious with not a Grimm in sight, while around them the girls started to stir and come around. (Truly, men's work had just been done.) Emerald and Neo had unfortunately somehow disappeared during the final battle with the Grimm, ending the whole encounter in a stalemate, but for now their friends were safe.

And that's all that really matters in the end, right?

Good game, everyone! Game ends in a draw, because it was mathematically impossible for you two remaining Townies to take out all those Grimm. (Anatron, of course, would be another matter, as would a Dunsparce who had more than 10 of his Aura left to defend you with.) Might as well not waste the time it would take to run the Night phases at this point, yeah?

I want to thank you all for playing, and especially for having put in the good amount of effort that I saw everybody actually putting in. (Yes, even FD, believe it or not!) I genuinely had a ton of fun running this game, and so I can only hope you had anywhere near as much fun playing it.

Overall, I'm rather pleased with how the balancing and game-flow worked out for this first iteration of a really weird, unusual new game type. Working out all the different types of interactions and roles, how strong they were, how costly, etc., was an incredibly challenging task to undertake, and I'm really surprised by how little hot-fixing had to be done once all the last minute adjustments were done and the role PM's were sent out.

But, what do you guys think? Big nerfs needed here? Buffs there? I hope to run another one of these games again in the not-too-distant future, so lemme get an idea of what some of your most favorite / least favorite roles and mechanics were, so I can better put out the v2.0 you'd wanna see more of!

I really liked my role. Having to actually make a choice between gathering information and trying to defend people was fun and engaging.

Anyways I have to ask, Dunsparce, did you target me last night with your grim defense ability or did rngesus just decide I wasn't worth the Grimm's time?

As far as my play goes, I think this is the least spazzy and stupid I've played and I'm pretty happy with myself overall. I need to trust my gut more often. My only regret was not checking to see who was targeting Jeroth night 0.

That checking Jeroth move was brilliant to be honest. We figured it would be more likely for someone to be looking at who Andy targets, so Andy dropped half his attack on Grimm to look like a townie. I figured if anyone didn't attack Grimm that same night, it would go to me, so I used the one-way bus to redirect to Tag. But neither of us expected the "Jeroth probably got hit by mafia and didn't die, better see who comes back to finish the job" move.

Speaking of which, Night Actions were:

Night 0
Anatron Dodges
Andy attacks Anatron twice, and hits once (Anatron takes 30 damage.)
Tag attacks Andy and Anatron, missing Anatron (20 damage to Andy)
W1LG3R busses attacks from himself to Anatron
Ro charges up an attack
Rondait watches himself
Dunsparce passes on his Night action, thereby earning himself the MVP slot for Town side
Jeroth boosts himself and attacks Dunsparce (Dunsparce takes 45 damage)
Firedemon attacks Jeroth (Jeroth takes 65 damage)
Nobody dies.

Night 1
Ro kills an Alpha Beowolf and like half the regular ones with a single attack
Tag deals 90 damage to Grimm, killing an Ursa Minor
Jeroth redeems his N0 by boosting himself, and super-boosting Dunsparce (uses all his Aura)
Rondait watches Jeroth
Super-boosted Dunsparce attacks Grimm and Andy; 70 damage to Grimm, 45 to Andy
Anatron attacks Grimm, kills a bear or something
Andy attacks Grimm and Jeroth for 50 damage each, killing Jeroth and some Grimm
FD buses from himself to Tag, and attacks Ro for 85 damage
1 Lesser Beowolf attacks Anatron (10 damage)

Night 2
Anatron dodges
FD buses himself with Anatron, and attacks himself (hits Anatron for 122 damage, kills him)
Rondait shields Anatron, and gets redirected to Firedemon
Dunsparce tranquilizes Rondait and Anatron (not "targeted," so doesn't get redirected)
Dunsparce attacks FD and gets redirected to Anatron, but misses
Tag uses double-attack on the King Taijitu, deals 50 damage to it

9 Lesser Beowolves, 1 Ursa Minor, 1 Alpha Beowolf, and 2 Ursai Major attack Ro, and kill the absolute shit out of him.
6 Lesser Beowolves, 4 Ursai Minor, and 1 Alpha Beowolf attack Tag, and kill the shit out of him.
1 King Taijitu attacks FD, but gets blocked by Rondait's shield. 1 Alpha Beowolf attacks FD, and deals 5 damage. 5 Lesser Beowolves and 1 Ursa Minor attack FD, and deal no damage.

The scenario plays out in my head like this. Rondait is mafia, having attacked Jeroth last night, they wanted to finish him off. In order to do so, they needed to minimize the amount of protection going to jeroth, so bus driving is a good option. They bus drive jeroth and someone who is unlikely to be attacked or checked, let's say Firedemon in this example. Rondait switches. The other mafia multiattacks me and Firedemon so Jeroth and I take damage, and Rondait himself attacks me. Then daytime comes along, Rondait knows who targeted Jeroth, which were all redirected to Firedemon, tells us all that who targeted Jeroth, and leaves out the attack from neo.
So, anyone take a small bit of damage from a player? Maybe you were the one they redirected andy's attack to.
Also, how did nobody point out that "Mafia Watcher" and "Mafia Tracker" were not on the List Of Possible Roles? Andy even quoted that list right in front of everybody, and still nobody picked up on that. Sheesh. =/

Huh. That's a lot more night 0 attacks by townies than I anticipated.
"If there was 1 Grimm on Night 0 to target, the Town would have won in half the time" -Anatron, probably being correct.

Eh, it was Ro's random accusations, and it was theoretically possible if extremely unlikely that something like that could be attached to a bus. Still, we made the right choice that day.
